This paper introduces an implementation for magnetic resonance wireless power transfer for space applications. The analysis includes an equivalent impedance study, loop material characterization, source/load resonance coupling technique, and system response behavior due to loads variability. System characterization is accomplished by executing circuit design from analytical equations and simulations using Matlab and SPICE. The theory was validated by a combination of different experiments that includes loop material consideration, resonance coupling circuits considerations, electric loads considerations and a small scale proofof- concept prototype. Abstract|In high power applications of wireless power transfer systems as Maglev, both a high transferred power and a high e±ciency are essential. However, these two requirements usually show dissimilar pro¯les over a range of operating conditions. Magnetic and electric models for a capacitor compensated system are used to analyze the problem. Using the analysis outcome, a compromise is made to come to an acceptable design achieving both requirements. In particular, appropriate design parameters and resonance frequency are obtained. The analytical results are con¯rmed by 3D FEM analysis. Download
Probability theory is a fundamental pillar of modern mathematics with relations to other mathematical areas like algebra, topology, analysis, geometry or dynamical systems. As with any fundamental mathematical construction, the theory starts by adding more structure to a set . In a similar way as introducing algebraic operations, a topology, or a time evolution on a set, probability theory adds a measure theoretical structure to which generalizes ”counting” on finite sets Download

There is no better arena for observing a culture in action than business. Cultures tend to reveal themselves in situations where much is as stake, because it is here that their resources are most needed. Marriage, family obligations, and such stressful experiences as illness and the death of a loved one bring out much of what is distinctive and fundamental in a culture. The same is true of business, because economic survival is at stake. Business practices are shaped by deeply-held cultural attitudes toward work, power, trust, wealth—and communication. Download

It manifested initially in the form of foreign exchange crisis, and then debt and interest payment problems Download
The subject of linear algebra can be partially explained by the meaning of the two terms comprising the title. “Linear” is a term you will appreciate better at the end of this course, and indeed, attaining this appreciation could taken as one of the primary goals of this course. However, for now, you can understand it to mean anything that is “straight” or “flat.” For example, in the XY-plane, you might be accustomed to describing straight lines (is there any other kind?) as the set of solutions to an equation of the form y = ax + b, where the slope m and the y-intercept b are constants that together describe the line Download
The ability to work comfortably with negative numbers is essential to success in algebra. For this reason, we will do a quick review of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing of integers. Integers are all the positive whole numbers, zero, and their opposites (negatives). As this is intended to be a review of integers, the descriptions and examples will not be as detailed as a regular lesson Download
Linear algebra is one of the most applicable areas of mathematics. It is used by the pure mathematician and by the mathematically trained scientists of all disciplines. This book is directed more at the former audience than the latter, but it is hoped that the writing is sufficiently clear with enough detail so that the anyone reading the text can understand it. While the book is written in an informal style and has many elementary examples, the propositions and theorems are generally carefully proved, and the interested student will certainly be able to experience the theorem-proof style of text Download

Cryptography scrambles messages so they cannot be understood. Steganography on the other hand, will hide the message so there is no knowledge of the existence of the message in the first place. In some situations, sending an encrypted message will arouse suspicion while an ”invisible” message will not do so. Both sciences can be combined to produce better protection of the message. In this case, when the steganography fails and the message can be detected, it is still of no use as it is encrypted using cryptography techniques. Download

In cognitive science and neuroscience, there have been two leading models describing how humans perceive and classify facial expressions of emotion—the continuous and the categorical model. The continuous model defines each facial expression of emotion as a feature vector in a face space. This model explains, for example, how expressions of emotion can be seen at different intensities. In contrast, the categorical model consists of C classifiers, each tuned to a specific emotion category. Download

Doing Business 2013 holds new information to inspire policy makers and researchers. One ?nding is that Poland improved the most in the Doing Business measures in 2011/12, while Singapore maintains its top spot in the overall ranking. Another finding is that European economies in ? scal distress are making ef orts to improve the business climate, and this is beginning to be re? ected in the indicators tracked by Doing Business, with Greece being among the 10 economies that improved the most in the Doing Business measures in the past year. Part of the solution to high debt is the recovery of economic growth, and there is broad recognition that creating a friendlier environment for entrepreneurs is central to this goal. But perhaps the most exciting ? nding is that of a steady march from 2003 to 2012 toward better business regulation across the wide range of economies included. With a handful of exceptions, every economy covered by Doing Business has narrowed the gap in business regulatory practice with the top global performance in the areas measured by the indicators. This is a welcome race to the top. Download

A back-up protection scheme which is based on terminal measurements is proposed for such a generator using synchrophasors which would trip the generator under LOF conditions by observing the line measurements at the plant. The real and reactive power-flows on some transmission lines near the plant are monitored o design the proposed back-up protection for the plant. The LOF is typically characterized by high MW flow out of the generator with large Q flow into the generator. An inverse time-characteristic logic on the reverse Q flow into the plant (above a preset threshold) under high MW flow out of the plant is suggested. Reset logic is needed in order to prevent false tripping under stable system swings. Accordingly, tripping can be made slower Download

Wavelet theory is a mathematical tool which has been developed independently for various signal processing applications: multiresolution signal processing, subband coding and wavelet expansion. The Wavelet Transform (WT) has become an important tool for power engineering, because it is an alternative to classical methods (the Fourier Transform). This form of signal analysis is far more efficient than Fourier in cases where a signal is dominated by transient behaviour or discontinuities. Neural networks are appropiate and especially powerfull when they are used to find such relationships that are difficult to describe explicity. This work explains a neural network-wavelet based protection relay. Download
Abstract - This paper presents a new methodology for evaluation of the inuence of instrument transformers (ITs) on performance of protection system. Instrument transform-ers are responsible for delivering accurate power system current and voltage replicas to protective relays. However, both theoretical research and eld application have shown that, due to their characteristics, conventional ITs may degrade relay performance signicantly. So far, various studies in-vestigated many aspects of the mentioned inuence. Themethodology presented in this paper takes systematic ap-proach to the problem: it examines possible criteria and denes procedure for evaluation of the inuence. An application of the methodology is presented, along with the results.Suggestions for the improvement of application of conventional instrument transformers are also given. Download

In this paper, the optimization of coordination of directional overcurrent relays in an interconnected power system is presented. The objective of protective relay coordination is to achieve selectivity without sacrificing sensitivity and quick fault clearance time. A methodology is adopted for the consideration of backup relays in the optimal coordination of directional overcurrent relays. The calculation of the Time Dial Setting (TDS) and the pickup current (Ip) setting of the relays is the core of the coordination study. The objective function to be minimized is defined as the sum of the time dial settings of all the relays. The inequality constraints guarantee the coordination margin for each primary/backup relay pair having a fault very close to the primary relay. Using this formulation, the size of the optimization problem is significantly reduced. Genetic Algorithm is the algorithm being applied to minimize the operating times of the relays. Both Linear and Non Linear Equations are framed for the test bus system used and optimized using the Genetic Algorithm in this paper. Download

The continuing growth of grid connected wind turbine generation systems worldwide has driven research efforts in understanding their dynamic behaviour and highlighted the importance of grid integration studies. Within this context, this work develops a systematic analysis of the dynamic behaviour of wind turbines during transient disturbances of the power system to which they are connected. As part of a study commissioned by the Brazilian National System Operator (ONS), it aims at characterising the dynamic behaviour of different wind turbine technologies and assessing the effect of the protection system settings on the wind power plant low voltage ride-through capability. Dynamic models were developed in MATLAB/Simulink for variable speed (using doubly fed induction generator – DFIG, and synchronous generator – SG) and fixed speed wind turbines (using induction generator - IG). The results obtained provide a fundamental understanding of the interaction between the system components. Download

In recent years, face recognition has attracted much attention and its research has rapidly expanded by not only engineers but also neuroscientists, since it has many potential applications in computer vision communication and automatic access control system. Especially, face detection is an important part of face recognition as the first step of automatic face recognition. However, face detection is not straightforward because it has lots of variations of image appearance, such as pose variation (front, non-front), occlusion, image orientation, illuminating condition and facial expression. Download
Human face detection has become a major field of interest in current research because there is no deterministic algorithm to find face(s) in a given image. Further the algorithms that exist are very much specific to the kind of images they would take as input and detect faces. The problem is to detect faces in the given, colored class group photograph. The approach, we take is a mixture of heuristic and known algorithms. To detect faces we can put a number of simple rejection blocks in series, until we get the faces. Deeper the rejection block, more specifically it can be trained to eliminate non-faces. Various methods like neural networks, template matching, maximal rejection, fisher linear discriminants and eigenfaces have been tried. Finally, a combination of skin color segmentation, morphological operations (erosion), and eigenfaces has been used. Download
The goal of the project is to identify faces in a group photograph.  From a color image, we use a number of image processing techniques to detect the locations of faces within the image.   Download
Template matching is performed first to find the regions of high correlation with the face and eyes templates. Subsequently, using a mask derived from color segmentation and cleaned by texture filtering and various binary operations, the false and repeated hits are removed from the template matching result. The output of this process is then passed to a clustering procedure, where points are within a certain euclidean distance from one another will be clustered into one point. The whole process will then be repeated at a different scale/resolution. The outputs from each resolution are then recombined into a single mask. Download

This poses a problem of a situation that the staff at ‘Guckenheimer,’ as well as many other restaurants faces. It takes up a lot of time to manually keep track of sales and place correct orders to vendors, wasting useful labor in trivial works. A product which would assist in tackling the above mentioned problems would prove to be fruitful to clients such as ‘Guckenheimer’ and similar enterprises as this product would help convert the unproductive time to something more useful, by removing the unnecessary error prone complications and efforts. The motivation for this project came from the countries where economy is based on agriculture and the climatic conditions lead to lack of rains & scarcity of water. The farmers working in the farm lands are solely dependent on the rains and bore wells for irrigation of the land. Even if the farm land has a water-pump, manual intervention by farmers is required to turn the pump on/off whenever needed. Download
This project aims at generation of carrier based PWM scheme using POD strategy through the means of an AT89C51 microcontroller. The salient features are: Firstly, Both the high frequency triangular carrier wave and the sinusoidal reference signal are being generated in the microcontroller. The digital to analog converter(DAC0808)is then employed for converting them into their analog signal forms An opamp based comparator then compares these two carrier & reference signals to give us the desired sinusoidal pulse width modulated signal as the required final-output. The PWM signal thus generated is then used as triggering pulses for the multilevel inverters. Download
The main objective of this project is to design an intelligent auto traffic signal control system. Traffic congestion is one of the major issues to be considered.Generally Vehicular traffic intersects at the junctions of the road and are controlled by the traffic signals.Traffic signals need a good coordination and control to ensure the smooth and safe flow of the vehicular traffic.During the rush hours, the traffic on the roads is at its peak. Also, there is a possibility for the emergency vehicles to stuck in the traffic jam. Therefore; there is a need for the dynamic control of the traffic during rush hours. Hence,I propose a smart traffic signal controller. The proposed system tries to minimize the possibilities of traffic jams, caused by the traffic lights, to some extent by clearing the road with higher density of vehicles and also provides the clearance for the emergency vehicle if any. The system is based on the PIC 16F877A micro controller, IR sensors and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The code for this project is compiled in high tech C compiler and the simulated with Proteus software. Download
The IR system gets activated whenever any vehicle passes on road between IR transmitter and IR receiver. Microcontroller controls the IR system and counts number of vehicles passing on road. Microcontroller also store vehicles count in its memory. Based on different vehicles count, the microcontroller takes decision and updates the traffic light delays as a result. The traffic light is situated at a certain distance from the IR system. Thus based on vehicle count, microcontroller defines different ranges for traffic light delays and updates those accordingly. Development of a traffic light control system using PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is the title of this project. This project is divided into two parts which are hardware and software. The hardware part for this project is a model of four way junction of a traffic light. Each lane has two limits switch (input) function as a sensor. Three indicator lamps with different colours (Red, Yellow and Green) are installed at each lane for represents as traffic light signal. This limit switches and indicator lamps are connected to Omron PLC CQM1H-CPU51. The PLC controls every signal which is coming from the inputs (Limit switch) to software and display to the outputs (Indicator lamps). The software part operates with Omron PLC is CX-Programmer. With using this software, the ladder logic diagram is programmed to control the traffic light base on the flow chart. At the end of this project, the traffic light successfully control by PLC. This will reduce the search time required to locate and retrieve the payload. Download
The power supplied to the rural areas in India is not always a three phase supply. Sometimes during a day usually two phase supply is given to them. This makes the agricultural community unable to irrigate during these times. For an uninterrupted irrigation the three phase supply is obtained by converting the two phase to a three phase by phase displacement from a healthy phase to a phase that is not supplied by the producer. During normal three phase operation of motor when a single phase gets disconnected, it leads to improper operation of motor. To prevent this single phasing presenter is also implemented. Download
If we saw today’s Intelligent Traffic Light System (ITLS), then we observe that are lot of limitation on that system. This System are not on real time basis. This System are based on microcontroller and microprocessor. These ITLCS have limitations because it uses the pre-defined hardware, which is functioning according to the program that does not have the flexibility of modification on real time basis. Due to the fixed time intervals of green, orange and red signals the waiting time is more and car uses more fuel. To make traffic light controlling more efficient, we exploit the emergence of new technique called as "Intelligent traffic light system ". This makes the use of Sensor Networks along with Embedded Technology. This project also includes analyzing traffic of each road along the signals and assigning time period to glow the respective light. This time slot may vary according to the traffic. The older system uses integrated highway management system based on the radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in which it will be tracking vehicles and Electronic toll collection system will be implemented. But it has one major disadvantage that each vehicle has mount a one metal plate so cost of this system is very high. For that purpose we use sensor based ITLCS system. Download
Traffic congestion is the biggest problem faced by densely populated countries like India, China etc. So, our project focuses on three areas-Ambulance, Priority vehicles (like VIP cars, police jeeps) and Traffic density control. The project is a replica of a four way lane crossing of real time scenario. In the first part, concentrated on problems faced by Ambulances, RFID concept is used to make the Ambulance’s lane Green and thus providing a stoppage free way for the Ambulance. In the second part, concentrated on problems faced by Priority vehicles, IR transmitter and receiver are used to make the vehicles’ lane Green and thus preventing traffic congestion. In the third part, concentrated on Traffic density control, IR transmitter and receiver are used to provide dynamic traffic control and thus increasing the duration of the Green light of the lane in which traffic density is high and hence, regulating traffic. Traffic congestion is a severe problem in many modern cities around the world. Traffic congestion has been causing many critical problems and challenges in the major and most populated cities. To travel to different places within the city is becoming more difficult for the travelers in traffic. Due to these congestion problems, people lose time, miss opportunities, and get frustrated. Traffic congestion directly impacts the companies. Due to traffic congestions there is a loss in productivity from workers, trade opportunities are lost, delivery gets delayed, and thereby the costs goes on increasing. Download

Telecommunications has evolved as a basic infrastructure like electricity, roads, water etc. and has also emerged as one of the critical components of economic growth required for overall socio economic development of the country. The Indian telecom sector has registered a phenomenal growth during the past few years and has become second largest telephone network in the world, only after China. A series of reform measures by the Government, the wireless technology and active participation by private sector played an important role in the exponential growth of telecom sector in the country. National Telecom Policy-2012 (NTP-2012) has been announced during the current year with the primary objective of maximizing public good by making available affordable, reliable and secure telecommunication and broadband services across the entire country. The dynamism of global telecommunications markets is widely attributed to rapid technological development and an increasingly liberal policy environment. Over the last few years the European Community (EC) and India liberalized their telecom sectors, which have resulted in significant expansion of the networks in these economies. While the timing of telecom reform and liberalization has been different, there are certain commonalities in the reform process. All countries have introduced competition in the provision of telecommunications services with dramatic results such as reduction in prices of these services. Further, introduction of competition in a sector once considered a natural monopoly has necessitated the setting up of independent regulators. Download

Our goal was to develop a mobile application aimed at dynamically creating music, depending on our electromagnetic environment. The original idea came from the principle of the theremin, which is the first (and only) “contactless” electronic music instrument. We used an audio engine called Pure Data to create the sound. Depending on the different inputs (magnetic sensor, GSM signal strength, Wifi signal strength, etc.), different parameters of the music are modulated (tempo, rhythm, pitch, etc.). By walking around with your smartphone, you can then listen to a unique music composition that illustrates something you cannot usually “feel”: your electromagnetic environment. Download

Weather plays a significant role in the operation of various facilities and industries in the world. Nowadays, there are many sources of weather data maps and tables. Naturally, there are many information systems created to manage and to manipulate weather-based data. The function of an information system is to improve one’s ability to make decisions. An information system relates to a chain of operations lead to planning the observation and collection of data, to storage and analysis of data, to the use of derived information in decision-making processes. The creation of a GIS database almost always represents the most significant investment in a GIS project. Therefore, data management becomes the most important part of GIS. Various data structures and exchanging different types of data cause serious problems at the beginning phase of GIS. Recently, web-based GIS with the rapid expansion of internet and the World Wide Web is regarded as one of important issues for web application, and several GIS products running on web browser have been announced. The system used in this study has two main differences from other web-based GIS applications. It is real-time and gets data from sources simultaneously in exact time intervals that users defined previously, and secondly, all the developing and publishing tools used in the system are open sourced. Aim of this study is to create a web-based, free and open sourced GIS that can work with different data formats by exchanging and presenting data as a real-time map on web. Download
The most research on the power consumption of circuits has been concentrated on the switching power and the power dissipated by the leakage current has been relatively minor area. However, in the current VLSI process, the sub-threshold current becomes the one of the major factors of the power consumption, especially in high-end memory. To reduce the leakage power in the SRAM, the power rating method can be applied and a major technique of the power gating is using sleep transistors to control the sub-threshold current. In this project, dual threshold voltages are adopted; normal SRAM cellave lower threshold voltages and THE higher threshold voltages control the sleep transistors. The size of sleep transistors can be chosen by the worst case current and are applied to every block. Download

All modern vehicles today include an Engine Control Unit (ECU). This unit is responsible for the co-ordination of all sub systems of the vehicle such as the anti locking breaking system (ABS) and the fuel ignition system. The ECU reads sensor values from various parts of the engine and depending on these values it performs the appropriate actions. For example, if the air intake is low, the fuel input is increased to compensate. If errors occur in the engine management system, such as a miss-fire in the engine, the ECU must log this error and if serious enough, illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on the dashboard to notify the driver. All this information is made available to scan tools and fault code readers using the Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) protocol. Download

Renewable energy technologies are clean sources of energy that have a much lower environmental impact than conventional energy technologies. Importing energy is costly while most renewable energy investments are spent on local materials and workmanship to build and maintain the facilities. Renewable energy investments are usually spent within the United States, frequently in the same state, and often in the same town. This means your energy dollars stay home to create jobs and fuel local economies, rather than going overseas. Originally the technique was aiming at automating a number of tasks a designer is performing and in particular the modelling of the product. Today CAD systems are covering most of the activities in the design cycle, they are recording all product data, and they are used as a platform for collaboration between remotely placed design teams. Most of its uses are for manufacturing and the usual name of the application is CAD/CAM. The areas of application of CAD related techniques, such as CAD, CAEngineering and CAManufacturing is shown in Fig.1. On the left side of the figure we have a simplified representation of the design cycle and on the right side the use of IT systems. Each of the above functions is not accomplished by a single system and it is quite often for a company to use more that one system, especially when we have CAD and CAE applications. Download

Genetic algorithms (GA’s) are investigated as an algorithm for adaptation. In this context, the following problem is addressed: Given an arbitrary two-dimensional shape, form the closest equivalent shape with a string of n connected straight lines. For this problem, the user specified shape supplies the optimal shape. By solving the problem in this fashion, a knowledge base has been created towards solving a more complex problem in which the shape is not intuitively obvious. Also, through these efforts the following intellectual questions are answered: Why are components shaped the way they are? How are component shapes described to CAD systems? Download

Thermo acoustic have been known for over years but the use of this phenomenon to develop engines and pumps is fairly recent. Thermo acoustic refrigeration is one such phenomenon that uses high intensity sound waves in a pressurized gas tube to pump heat from one place to other to produce refrigeration effect. In this type of refrigeration all sorts of conventional refrigerants are eliminated and sound waves take their place. All we need is a loud speaker and an acoustically insulated tube. Also this system completely eliminates the need for lubricants and results in 40% less energy consumption. Thermo acoustic heat engines have the advantage of operating with inert gases and with little or no moving parts, making them highly efficient ideal candidate for environmentally-safe refrigeration with almost zero maintenance cost. Now we will look into a thermo acoustic refrigerator, its principle and functions. Download

All modern vehicles today include an Engine Control Unit (ECU). This unit is responsible for the co-ordination of all sub systems of the vehicle such as the antilocking breaking system (ABS) and the fuel ignition system. The ECU reads sensor values from various parts of the engine and depending on these values itperforms the appropriate actions. Download

The geotechnical engineers design foundations and other structures on the soil after investigation of the type of soil, its characteristics and its extent. If the soil is good at shallow depth below the ground surface, shallow foundation such as footings and rafts, are generally most economical. However if the soil just below the ground surface is not good but a strong stratum exist at a great depth, deep foundations, such as piles, wells and caissons are required. Deep foundations are quite expensive and are cost effective only in the where the structure to be supported is quite heavy and huge. Sometimes the soil conditions are very poor even at greater depth and it is not practical to construct even deep foundation. Download

Overhead surveillance and mapping is becoming increasingly important in a number of areas with commercial, economic, and military applications. Effective algorithms for mosaicking are essential in building maps of large-scale areas; further, key steps in the mosaicking process such as feature matching and verification have implications in the rapidly growing area of robotic navigation and localization. This paper discusses an algorithm for the mosaicking of a set of images captured by a low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicle and a method of incorporating position metadata into the feature matching process to minimize the image search space and to minimize computation time. Implementation of the homography model with weighted blending between adjacent images produces a nicely mosaicked result with smooth transitions among images of the region of interest, selected to be the Stanford Oval. It is shown that searching for matching frames within a limited radius R both saves computation time and improves likelihood of converging on a successful model. Download

From an input picture of a pool table with random cue, eight, striped and solid ball positions, the algorithm prioritizes view aspect, lighting illumination, light aspect and scale invariance. View aspect issues are reduced by rectification to a top-down view. Lighting illumination issues are reduced by white-balancing ball colors. Light direction issues are reduced by template matching. Scale issues are reduced by scaling operations to the determined table and ball size. Image processing techniques used by the algorithm include homography, image segmentation, morphological erosion, template matching, edge detection, and color processing. Download

current technology allows optical recording of brain activity in awake behaving mice through the use of miniature head-mounted microscopes. These images require processing, as they are unevenly illuminated, contain framewide shifts, and do not readily reveal individual neurons. After statistical methods yield a set of images containing putative individual neuron shapes and locations, a human must classify images as containing a single neuron or some kind of noise or clutter. This task is confounded by the fact that imaging optics can create aberrations in the image features. We present two algorithms: one for removing optical aberrations for presentation purposes, and another for automatically rejecting images that contain noise or non-neuron features. Download

Image segmentation is an important image processing, and it seems everywhere if we want to analyze what inside the image. For example, if we seek to find if there is a chair or person inside an indoor image, we may need image segmentation to separate objects and analyze each object individually to check what it is. Image segmentation usually serves as the preprocessing before image pattern recognition, image feature extraction and image compression. Researches of it started around 1970, while there is still no robust solution, so we want to find the reason and see what we can do to improve it. Download
In a climate of advancing technology, information can be shared more extensively and more broadly. One way is to provide more information about everyday items is with a visual code marker. These two- dimensional barcodes can contain information that might normally not be included in legible form. Thus, these barcodes would require the intervention of some detection and discerning algorithm. Based on camera-phone pictures as inputs to a code that can determine the contents of the visual code marker, these markers can share information to a vast number of consumers without a large impact to current resources available. The one algorithm described here uses a collection of digital image processing techniques such as template matching, morphological operations, and perspective transformations. Even with the complexity of these digital image processing methods, the algorithm described is fast and accurate. Download

This project design is embodied on a motorized tricycle for disabled Persons. The tricycle was specifically designed to suit wheelchair occupants of healthy Upper torso with pelvic to foot restraint. It is also designed to suit a commonly available Wheel chair. The level of relationship between the disabled people in the society has highly being jeopardized; therefore this project was designed to correct the difficulties in mobility of the wheelchair users. The main aim of the project design is to ease mobility for the physically challenged and also provide adequate comfort they desire. Existing tricycles for the disables requires the disabled person to dismount from the wheelchair onto the tricycle. The motorized tricycle in this project is designed to overcome this problem by allowing the disabled person to wheel up or down his wheelchair onto or down the tricycle. This is achieved using a specially designed platform that allows the wheel chair to be wheeled up or down. The prototype of this tricycle has been fabricated. The anthropometrics data that need to be considered in the design of the platform and frame of the tricycle have been taken into consideration at the design stage of the tricycle. Download

We have built a service that allows users to take photos of restaurant facades using a smartphone and receive reviews of said restaurant. The service uses a vocabulary tree trained with a database of restaurant images as its core matching algorithm, further refined using GPS data and RANSAC matching. The training database itself is built from these query photos, so the vocabulary tree is periodically retrained to incorporate new data. Since the training images are automatically collected and may be of dubious quality, we reduce the effect of image noise by weighting descriptors found across many images of the same restaurant more heavily than descriptors that appear in fewer. The result is a self-growing, self-maintaining training set of landmark images that can be used to retrieve rich content like Yelp restaurant reviews. Download

This paper presents the concept of simultaneous ac-dc power transmission. Long extra high voltage (EHV) ac lines cannot be loaded to their thermal limits due to this instability occurs in the power system. It is difficult to load long extra high voltage (EHV) ac lines to their thermal limits as a sufficient margin is kept against transient instability. With the model proposed in this thesis, it will be possible to load these lines close to their thermal limits. The transmission lines are allowed to carry usual ac along with dc superimposed on it. The conductors are allowed to carry usual ac along dc superimposed on it. This thesis gives us the feasibility of converting a double circuit ac line into composite ac–dc power transmission line to get the advantages of parallel ac–dc transmission in order to transient stability and dynamic stability and dampen out oscillations. Simulation has been carried out in MATLAB software package (Simulink Model). The results show the stability of power system both for natural response when compared with only ac transmission. Download

Most of the commercial and industrial installation in the contry has large electrical loads which are severally inductive in nature causing lagging power factor which gives heavy penalties to consumer by electricity board. This situation is taken care by PFC. Power factor correction is the capacity of absorbing the reactive power produced by a load. In case of fixed loads, this can be done manually by switching of capacitors, however in case of rapidly varying and scattered loads it becomes difficult to maintain a high power factor by manually switching on/off the capacitors in proportion to variation of load within an installation. This drawback is Overcome by using an APFC panel. In this paper measuring of power factor from load is done by using PIC microcontroller and trigger required capacitors in order to compensate reactive power and bring power factor near to unity. This research embodies the design, construction and simulation of a feeder pillar (415VAC) with over-current, overload and earth-fault protection with the aid of a Phase sequence relay, contactor, earth-leakage circuit breaker and three-phase overload relay. The analog voltmeters in the various bus-bars (red, yellow and blue phases) in a conventional feeder pillar is replaced with a digital panel voltmeter indicating the voltage across a phase (240V) or line-to-line (415VAC) flowing through the bus-bars. The major reason for this research study is to prevent the constant changing of fuses. It also provides sufficient protection in electric power distribution, and easy identification of faults when encountered. The feeder pillar not only distributes power through the channels but also protects the transformer against damage through the use of the earth-leakage circuit breakers as well as miniature circuit breakers. The panel of the feeder is well earthed against lightning surges that can bring about damage to the distributing system. Download

It is well understood that induction motors draw higher currents during their starting operations than is the case under full load running conditions. Since the early days of induction motor availability, starting methods other than Direct-on-Line have been used, and in some cases mandated by Utilities, to reduce the effect of these high starting currents on the electrical distribution network. What is generally not recognized is the existence of short duration inrush currents, which greatly exceed these starting currents. Furthermore, the introduction of complex starting methods to reduce starting currents is often compromised by other unanticipated inrush currents introduced by the starting system itself, unless special precautions are taken. This paper implements a device that protects three phase induction motor from inrush currents on the distribution system, as well as on the motor protection components using PIC16F84A Microcontroller. Six studies test whether the effect of mood on self-control success depends on a person’s accessible goal. Positive mood signals a person to adopt an accessible goal, whereas negative mood signals a person to reject an accessible goal; therefore, if self-improvement goal is accessible, happy (vs. neutral or unhappy) people perform better on self-control tasks that further that goal. Conversely, if mood management goal is accessible, happy people abstain from self- control tasks because the tasks are incompatible with this goal. This pattern receives consistent support across several self-control tasks, including donating to charity, physical endurance, seeking negative feedback, and completing tests Download
